Bayer Leverkusen are in talks with Celtic over a transfer of Jeremie Frimpong, according to multiple sources.
The 20-year-old defender came through the youth ranks at Manchester City and joined the Scottish champions in the summer of 2019. Since then, he has made a total of 51 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring three times and providing his teammates with eight assists. Primarily a right-back, he is also capable of playing in midfield or as a winger.
With Lars Bender apparently set to retire at the end of the season, Leverkusen are trying to bring in young players on the defensive flanks. To that end, they’ve already signed Timothy Fosu-Mensah from Manchester United for the right side, and now they want Frimpong for the left.
Frimpong is bound to Celtic by a contract expiring in 2023, and the fee for his services being discussed between the two clubs is around €10 million.
