Daily Express has learned that Bayer Leverkusen are hoping to sign Benfica winger Nicolas Gaitan in the summer.
The Germans look set to stay without Andre Schurrle at the end of the current campaign, while they are also likely to miss out on long-term target Kevin de Bruyne.
Leverkusen are, therefore, turning their attention to Benfica’s Nicolas Gaitan, who will almost certainly be sold in the summer transfer window.
Manchester United were believed to be leading the chase for the Argentine midfielder, but it remains to be seen whether new boss David Moyes will follow up club’s interest in the player.
Despite struggling for playing time in the early exchanges, Nico Gaitan has reclaimed his place in the starting line-up and has been putting in some excellent showings this season.
The 25-year-old should be in the starting line-up as Benfica contest Europa League final with Chelsea at Amsterdam ArenA on Wednesday.
