Leverkusen join race for Martin Montoya

German media outlet Bild has suggested that Bayer Leverkusen are showing interest in Barcelona full-back Martin Montoya.

The Spaniard has been on the radar of Liverpool, Napoli, Inter Milan and Marseille, with the Bundesliga side in the mix as well.

It would appear as though coach Roger Schmidt is not too satisfied with his current options that include Roberto Hilbert and Giulio Donati, and he has instructed club officials to try and lure Montoya to Bay Arena.

The 23-year-old has found it difficult to ensure much needed playing time under Luis Enrique, having made just one league appearance so far this season.

This is enough to suggest that he will be prepared to listen to offers in January, especially as some of Europe’s top clubs are vying for his signature.

Montoya has already showed a great deal of potential at Camp Nou, making 15 and 13 league appearances for Barcelona in the previous two seasons.
