Libertadores: River Plate win thanks to last-gasp goal

Argentinian giants River Plate needed an injury time goal to beat Nacional of Paraguay in their Copa Libertadores opener. Club Nacional beat Univ. San Martin, while Universitario Sucre and Deportivo Quito held each other to a 1-1 draw.

The match between River Plate and Nacional headed for an undecided result until Diego Buonanotte netted a dramatic winner on 91 minutes. Further into added time the hosts had Robert Flores sent off and Jorge Nuñez followed for the guests not much later.

Club Nacional of Uruguay needed 31 minutes for Federico Dominguez to score the opener versus Peruvian side Universidad San Martin. Martin Arzuaga levelled eight minutes later but Nicolas Lodeiro decide the clash two minutes into injury time.

Bolivian outfit Universitario Sucre took a 1-0 lead over Deportivo Quito (Ecuador) through Jose Gomez in the 52nd minute but Mauricio Donoso levelled in the 69th to earn the visiting side a valuable point.
