Sao Paulo equalised late on to escape against Independiente Medellín, Nacional Asuncion were easily defeated by Club Nacional and Sport Recife recorded a 1-2 win at Colo Colo.

The clash between Sao Paulo and Independiente needed 80 minutes for the score to be opened with the Colombians taking the lead through Luis Arias. However, Sao Paulo fought to get a point and got exactly that when Borges levelled three minute into added time.

Paraguayan side Nacional never stood a chance against its Uruguayan namesake, who took the lead through Alvaro Fernandez on ten minutes. Nicolas Lodeiro added another in the 38th and Marcos Mondaini netted the third and final goal for 0-1 in the 64th.

Sport Recife were never really troubled at Colo Colo in Chile. Ciro scored the opener on seven minutes and Wilson doubled the advantage just before the interval. Lucas Barrios got one back in the 71st minute but the Brazilian guests held on to their lead.
