The League One outfit resisted a winding-up-order and were granted a 28-day adjournment by the High Court at a London hearing on Wednesday, after?the club?presented evidence that they were in the process of a takeover.
Wednesday are said to owe Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs nearly 1.5 million pounds alongside other debts.
The hearing on Wednesday was over an unpaid tax bill of 600,000 pounds.
But the club’s lawyers earned the club a stay of execution for at least another 28 days after telling the court that a consortium of local businessmen were close to purchasing the club.
“One glimmer of hope I can give all Sheffield Wednesday fans is that there are people out there who realise how important Sheffield Wednesday are to the community,” chairman Nick Parker said on Wednesday.
“It is now time for these people to step forward and in private do a deal with the Co-operative Bank and no longer make excuses for not doing it.”
Wednesday are due in court over another unpaid bill on December 1 but have until December 15 to prepare for their re-hearing in?the High Court
