Braga climbed to fifth place in Portugal’s Liga Sagres on Saturday with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Maritimo at the Estadio dos Barreiros.
Midfielder Helder Barbosa gave Braga the lead inside the first minute of the game, but Maritimo did not have to wait long for a reply and striker Baba Diawara had them back on level footing just three minutes later.
That was where it stayed until the 65th minute, when midfielder Custodio scored the winner to see his side climb to fifth, although they are still 23 points behind league leaders Porto, who they play in their next league match on February 13.
Maritimo remain in 11th place despite the defeat and will take on Pacos de Ferriera the same day.
