Porto’s incredible unbeaten record extended to 42 league matches as they hammered Uniao De Leiria 5-2 on Tuesday.
The champions went undefeated on their way to the Liga Sagres title last season and last lost a league match on February 28, 2010, to Sporting Lisbon.
And despite losing influential manager Andres Villas-Boas to Chelsea in the off-season, the champions have not slowed, notching their third win from as many matches in emphatic fashion.
First-half goals to James Rodriguez and Kleber kickstarted the rout, although Andre Almeida pulled a goal back from the hosts just six minutes into the second half.
Rodriguez and Kleber again were on the scoresheet though, and despite Diego Gaucho’s 78th minute consolation for Uniao, Silvestre Varela’s stoppage time goal wrapped up a convincing victory.
Porto top the league by two points, ahead of Benfica and Sporting Braga, while Uniao de Leiria are bottom and without a point.
