Vitoria Guimaraes leapt back into a Europa League spot with a 2-0 win over Maritimo, while Olhanense was held at home in the Liga Sagres.

Guimaraes missed continental competition by one spot last campaign and appear determined to make amends this season, having moved into fifth on the table ahead of the rest of the weekend’s matches.

Maritimo have had their own season of promise this campaign and sit in ninth, but had no answers to second-half goals from Guimaraes midfield duo Rui Miguel and Renan.

All is not lost for the Madeira outfit, however, with five points separating them from Guimaraes with four league games remaining.

In Saturday’s earlier game, Pacos de Ferreira returned from Olhanense with a 0-0 stalemate to maintain their own European push.

The point means Pacos are one win from Guimaraes on the table, while Olhanense move six points from the relegation zone.
