Nancy finished fourth in Ligue 1 last year and currently sit fourteenth in that league. Motherwell finished third in the SPL last season and currently sit tenth in that league.
Following Nancy’s 2-0 win at Motherwell in the Uefa Cup, a 3-0 win on aggregate, Motherwell manager Mark McGhee had no complaints and was, frankly, in awe of his French opponents. He told the BBC;
“There’s so much they do that we want to do. The movement of the strikers and the quality of their touch was fabulous. The free-kicks we lost for the goals were bad ones to give away. But, in general play, there were a lot of good things we were trying to do. We don’t feel we can’t have some pride. We’ll use that as a template for what we’re trying to achieve. You don’t get as good as that by just playing in games. You get it by working day in and day out – working at your touch, strength and fitness. I’m quite prepared to work as hard as my players are.”
I didn’t see the game but surely Nancy aren’t that good are they?
I can only assume that either the French league is exceptionally good or the Scottish league is exceptionally bad. Which one is it?
