Sochaux and Lorient were the only two winners in Ligue 1 on Saturday, with five draws creating much congestion at the top of the table.
A Modibo Maiga brace guided Sochaux to a 3-0 victory over Toulouse at their Stade Auguste-Bonal home.
Maiga struck in the ninth minute and Sochaux held on to a slim advantage for much of the encounter, before the Mali striker’s second sealed the points on 87 minutes.
Cedric Bakambu added a third in the 90th minute, topping off a victory that took Sochaux into 10th spot on 12 points.
Toulouse are level on 17 points with three other sides – Lyon, Paris Saint-Germain and Montpellier – at the top of the table.
Montpellier fought back from a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 draw away at Bordeaux.
The home side led after 18 minutes at the Stade Jacques Chaban-Delmas through a Cheick Diabate goal.
Celebrations at their lead turned sour when defender Marc Planus was sent off seven minutes later, though it was Bordeaux that scored next when Mickael Ciani struck for 2-0 on 50 minutes.
Amazingly, Montpellier could not take advantage of their extra man but, after they had Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa sent off in the 80th minute, Rene Girard’s men performed a stunning turnaround.
Younes Belhanda fired home a penalty on 88 minutes, before Hilton scored an unlikely equaliser to ensure Montpellier kept pace with the leading pack on the table.
Lorient climbed to fifth spot – one point behind the leading quartet – with a 2-0 home win over Valenciennes.
On-loan Arsenal forward Joel Campbell was on target for Lorient, scoring his first goal for the club in the 23rd minute, before Yann Jouffre doubled their advantage midway through the second half.
Caen and Nice traded late goals in their 1-1 stalemate, while Ajaccio earned a point in their away trip to Dijon after their clash also ended 1-1.
A Cedric Mongongu penalty salvaged a point for Evian TG in a 1-1 draw at bottom side Nancy, while Auxerre increased their unbeaten streak to eight when they held Saint-Etienne to a 1-1 draw away from home.
It was Auxerre’s sixth draw from nine fixtures this league season, leaving them in ninth place on 12 points.
