Lille won Ligue 1 for the first time since 1954 and completed a league and cup double with a 2-2 draw at Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday.

Rudi Garcia’s Lille team had already collected the club’s first piece of silverware for 56 years with a 1-0 victory over PSG in the final of Coupe de France last Saturday.

And it was the Parisian side standing in their way again, though Lille needed just a draw to ensure the championship would be heading back to the Stade Metropole.

The visitors made the best start possible through a goal from Ludovic Obraniak in just the fourth minute of the match at the Parc des Princes.

PSG levelled through Guillaume Hoarau in first-half injury time, but he received his marching orders in the first 60 seconds of the second half to leave the hosts to play out the remainder of the match a man down.

It looked like Lille would be able to wrap up their title triumph in a measure of comfort when forward Moussa Sow restored their lead with just over 30 minutes remaining.

But Mathieu Bodmer struck on 73 minutes to level again for 10-man PSG.

The undermanned home side held out for the remaining 17 minutes to take a point from the match.

The result keeps alive PSG’s hopes of overtaking Lyon to gain Champions League qualification on the last day of the season.

While they may have preferred to win, a point was good enough for Lille to start celebrating a third league championship and second league and cup double in their 67-year history.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Lyon missed a chance to seal third place and a spot in the Champions League qualifying rounds when they were held 0-0 at home to Caen.

Monaco kept their hopes of survival alive with a crucial 1-0 win away to Montpellier.

They remain inside the relegation zone and one point behind Nancy, who beat Rennes 2-0.

In other matches, Valenciennes managed a 2-2 draw away to Marseille, while Nice won 2-0 at home to Lorient.

Sochaux beat Saint-Etienne 2-1, Toulouse overcame Bordeaux 2-0 and Brest won 1-0 away to Auxerre.

Bottom side Arles beat second-last Lens 1-0, but both teams are already relegated.
