Lille leapt on top of the French Ligue 1 table with a stunning 6-3 victory over 10-man Lorient on Sunday.

Senegal international Moussa Sow was the hero for Lille, claiming a hat-trick to take his tally for the season to a league-leading 10 goals alongside Caen striker Youssef El-Arabi.

France international Kevin Gameiro blasted Lorient ahead with a vicious strike from the edge of the box in the sixth minute, but Sow nabbed his first five minutes later with a left-footed poke past Lorient goalkeeper Fabien Audard.

Maxime Baca’s own goal gave Lille their first lead of the match, but Gameiro popped up again to equalise before half-time with a thumping volley from inside the box.

Sow put Lille back in front four minutes after the restart with a header from inside the six-yard box, but Lorient forward Lynel Kitambala levelled again in the 57th minute.

But from that point on it was all Lille, as Ivory Coast striker Gervinho struck from close range one minute later and Sow nabbed his third on 82 minutes to make it 5-3.

Audard was sent off with a straight red card in the 85th minute, and three minutes later Pierre-Alain Frau put a goal past replacement stopper Lionel Cappone to clinch the victory.

Lille are on top of the Ligue 1 table with 28 points, while Lorient remain 12th with 21 points.

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain rose to second, one point behind Lille, with a 3-1 victory over sixth-placed Brest in the capital.

Brazilian striker Nene put PSG ahead in the fifth minute, but Nolan Roux equalised for Brest eight minutes after half-time.

Mathieu Bodmer helped PSG recapture the lead with a 59th-minute strike, and Ludovic Giuly scored his first goal of the season in the 77th minute.

Olympique Marseille lost top spot and dropped to fourth when they went down 1-0 at Nice.

Ivory Coast international Emerse Fae grabbed an injury-time winner for the hosts, who improve to 14th on the table with 20 points.
