Ligue 1 wrap: Lyon go top, Lille struggles continue

Lyon stamped their Ligue 1 title credentials with victory over Bordeaux, while Toulouse edged Nancy to continue their bright start.

Remi Garde’s Lyon outclassed struggling Bordeaux at Stade de Gerland, notching a 3-1 win as Bafetimbi Gomis scored a first-half brace before Michel Bastos sealed the win after the interval.

Anthony Modeste netted an 86th-minute consolation from the penalty spot for the visitors.

Toulouse joined Lyon on 17 points from eight matches played after Umut Bulut’s goal on 59 minutes helped them to a 1-0 win over Nancy.

Reigning champions Lille continued their stuttering start to the campaign, as a Kevin Monnet-Paquet goal deep into second-half injury time salvaged a 1-1 draw for Lorient at Stade Lille-Metropole.

Liverpool signing Joe Cole continued his bright start to life in France with a goal after 34 minutes, but Lille were forced to settle for a third consecutive draw after Monnet-Paquet’s late intervention.

Nice and Dijon also played out a 1-1 draw at Stade Municipal du Ray, as did Valenciennes and Marseille.

Promoted club Evian continued to struggle against top-flight opposition, going down 2-4 at home to Caen.

Cedric Barbosa scored a double for the hosts, but his work was undone by goals from Caen’s M’baye Niang, Gregory Proment, Frederic Bulot and Kandia Emile.
