Lucas Ocampo’s late winner sent Monaco three points clear at the top of Ligue 1 as they beat Saint-Etienne 2-1 at Stade Louis II.
Belgium Under-21 midfielder Yannick Ferreira Carrasco opened the scoring for Claudio Ranieri’s side before Romain Hamouma equalised. But former River Plate man Ocampos got the decisive goal in the 87th minute, moving Monaco ahead of Paris Saint-Germain, who take on third-placed Marseille on Sunday.
Lille moved level on points with Marseille with a 3-0 home victory over Ajaccio. Goals from Salomon Kalou and Senegalese duo Idrissa Gana Gueye and Pape Souare helped Rene Girard’s men extend their unbeaten run to four games.
Nantes were also 3-0 victors in their game against Evian TG to move up to fifth. Filip Dordevic’s double followed by a Papy Djilobodji strike consigned Evian to their second 3-0 reverse in three matches.
At the other end of the table, bottom-side Valenciennes drew 1-1 with Reims to gain only their fourth point of the season. Valenciennes had Central African Republic midfielder Eloge Enza-Yamissi to thank as his 90th-minute equaliser cancelled out Prince Oniangue’s opener for Reims.
Toulouse bounced back from last weekend’s defeat against PSG by beating Nice 1-0, Wissam Ben Yedder grabbing the game’s only goal after 34 minutes.
Elsewhere, second-half goals from Jeremy Sorbon and Mustapha Yatabare earned Guingamp a 2-0 win at home to Rennes, who had Portuguese striker Nelson Oliveira sent off 64 minutes in for a second bookable offence.
