Stade Rennes leapfrogged title rivals Lille and moved to the top Ligue 1 after a 2-0 win over Lens on Saturday.
Goals in each half from Razak Boukari and Victor Montano were enough for Rennes as they eased to a comfortable victory at the Stade de la Route de Lorient.
Frederic Antonetti’s side are now one point ahead of Lille, who can reclaim top spot with a win over fourth-placed Lyon on Sunday.
Nice were also 2-0 winners on Saturday, as they put more space between themselves and the relegation zone with a victory away to St Etienne.
Scores were locked 0-0 at the interval, before second-half strikes from Kafoumba Coulibaly and Anthony Mounier secured the three points for Nice, propelling them to 15th on the table.
Two goals in the space of five minutes helped 10-man Caen salvage a 2-2 draw away to Monaco.
A brace on either side of half time from Chu-Young Park had the hosts ahead at the Stade Louis II, but strikes from Youssef el-Arabi and Yohan Mollo gave Caen a share of the spoils.
The visitors had to endure a tense final 10 minutes however, after Jeremy Sorbon received his second yellow card in the 83rd minute.
Lowly Arles held Brest to a 1-1 draw at the Parc des Sports in Avignon, picking up just their 11th point for the season.
Elsewhere, Sochaux and Montpellier both finished with 10 men in their 0-0 draw at the Stade Auguste-Bonal, while Lorient and Valenciennes also played out a scoreless draw.
Alou Diarra, Anthony Modeste and Jaroslav Plasil all netted in Bordeaux’s 3-0 triumph over Auxerre at Stade Jacques Chaban-Delmas.
The win moved Jean Amadou Tigana’s side into 10th place on the table, while Auxerre remain in 17th spot, one point above the relegation zone.
