Ligue 1 side Lille have confirmed reports linking them with a January move for Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole.
The former England international had spent last season on loan at Stade Lille Metropole, but he returned to Anfield as the two clubs could not agree a transfer fee.
He has since been constantly overlooked by new boss Brendan Rodgers and is almost certain to leave the club in the January transfer window.
Former Lille star Yohan Cabaye recently urged Cole to return to Lille, and now les Dogues boss Rudi Garcia has confirmed that the experienced midfielder could return to the club.
“Joe (Cole) is a great person and a great footballer,” Garcia told Radio Monte Carlo. ”But financially it was not possible to keep him.”
“This can be prohibitive for the return of Joe to Lille. Sportingly and humanly, I’d love to see him back.”
Joe Cole did well to kick-start his career in France, scoring 4 goals in 32 Ligue 1 appearances for the club last season.
Since his return to Anfield, the 30-year-old has only made two substitute appearances in the Premier League, while making two starts in Capitol One Cup and Europa League.
