Jesse Lingard has decided to leave Manchester United when his contract expires at the end of the season, regardless of whether he’s wanted at Old Trafford by the newly appointed Erik ten Hag or not, according to multiple sources.
Once considered a real prospect for the future of the club, Lingard is now 29 and he’s never managed to live up to the expectations. In 2019-20, he was frequently left out of matchday involvement completely, and he didn’t make a single Premier League appearance in 2020-21, before going out on loan in January that season. He returned to the club the following summer, but he’s still seen as a rotational option under Ralf Rangnick, just as he was under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. This season, he’s managed to play a total of 22 games so far, scoring twice and assisting once, and his time at Manchester United is about to come to an end.
West Ham, Newcastle, AC Milan, Juventus and AS Roma have been credited with interest in his services by various outlets.
