Lippi looking for a national team job; Bayern to bid for Manchester City duo

Lippi looking for a national team job

Former Italy boss Marcelo Lippi has confessed that at this stage of his career he prefers a national team job over a club one.

The experienced coach has been out of work since Italy’s disappointing exit from the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, but he is now ready for a new challenge.

“I hope to be working abroad,” Lippi told Radio Toscana. “Up until now I have received many offers, but nothing concrete has evolved.

“I’d like to take charge of a national side rather than a club one, but we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.”

Cesare Prandelli succeeded Lippi on the Italy bench and the experienced tactician has been impressed with the former Fiorentina boss.

“I like the enthusiasm that I have seen in this Nazionale. It reminds me of the spirit within the camp during my first two-year cycle which ended in winning the World Cup.”

Lippi reserved special praise for Milan, who are on the verge of winning the Serie A title.

“There is just a metre to go, actually just a centimeter. I think they deserve the title because they really wanted the championship.”

Bayern to bid for Manchester City duo

Bayern Munich have shown interest in Manchester City players Emmanuel Adebayor and Jerome Boateng.

The Bavarians are desperate to sign defensive reinforcements for next season and they have set their sights on Manchester City defender Jerome Boateng.

Bayern chiefs have been aware of the player’s potential from his time at Hamburg, while they really like the fact that Boateng can cover every position in the back line.

However, Manchester City sporting director Mike Rigg says Boateng is not for sale.

“We have big goals for Jerome. He is an important part of our plans,” Rigg told Bild.

“We will be playing in the Champions League qualifying next season – with Jerome. He is not for sale.”

Bayern are also interested in signing City striker currently on loan at Real, Emmanuel Adebayor, who should be available for €13 million.

The Togolese currently earns €150,000 per week and while Real Madrid have the option to make his loan deal permanent, los Blancos look unlikely to exercise that option.

“Real have a purchase option,” Rigg added.

“Adebayor is a guy who would fit Bayern. A very tall player, similar type to Luca Toni.”

Ambrosini eager to sign a new deal with Milan

Massimo Ambrosini has revealed that he wants to sign a contract extension at San Siro, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

The long serving midfielder is just one of several high profile players whose contracts expire next summer.

Milan chiefs have shelved any transfer talks for after they secure the Serie A title and with the trophy now in the bag, they are expected to enter negotiations with the players’ representatives.

Massimo Ambrosini admits that he would like to be offered a new deal.

“I’d stay, but this is something that needs to be discussed between both parties,” Ambrosini told La Repubblica.

“When the right moment arrives then Milan will be obliged to make their intentions to me clear,” he added.

“We’ll have to just wait and see what happens, but I’m hopeful that a solution will be found.”

Alessandro Nesta, Clarence Seedorf and Andrea Pirlo are in the same position as Ambrosini and they are also waiting proposals from the club.
