Lippi ‘very proud’ of his players

Italy coach Marcello Lippi insisted he was ‘very proud’ of his players after their 2-1 victory over Montenegro at Lecce’s Stadio Via del Mare last night.

Alberto Aquilani netted a brace, as the Azzurri are on a run of 30 games unbeaten.

“I am happy with this performance in the second game in three days,” he said after the match.

“Montenegro will cause problems for many sides, as they have great technique and above all had rested at the weekend.”

He continued: “I am very proud of all these players, both young and old, who got four points in three days.

“We are trying to rebuild a new squad, so evidently that takes time and some may complain, but I really don’t care.”
