Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was quick to point out his side were not exactly title contenders ahead of the high-profile clash against Arsenal, but it appears his players do not feel the same way.
The Reds hammered the then Premier League leaders 5-1 at Anfield after scoring four first-half goals and missing few more clear-cut chances.
And while many refuse to consider Liverpool as serious title contenders, the fact of the matter is they are just six points behind leaders Chelsea, with 14/1 price offered on the Reds to lift the title looking tempting indeed.
The reality is Brendan Rodgers’ side have coped brilliantly with the absence of some key players throughout the season and no wonder they are on top of their game now that Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and Steven Gerrard are all available for selection.
Their back-up defence has also impressed in the absence of Agger, Johnson, Sakho and Enrique, and if it hadn’t been for Kolo Toure’s blunder at the Hawthorns, Liverpool would be even closer to the Premiership summit.
Unlike their title rivals, the Reds are under no pressure as their main objective is to secure a top 4 finish, while the absence of European football is also an advantage over the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and City.
All things considered, Liverpool do face an uphill task in an attempt to win the first league trophy since 1990, but if they continue playing like this the title dreams might just become a reality.
