According to Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri, Liverpool have agreed personal terms to sign Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich this summer.
The 29-year-old’s contract with the Bundesliga champions has entered its final 12 months, and it’s rather clear that the talks about a new one between the player and the club haven’t gone too well. Bayern CEO Kart-Heinz Rummenigge said only on Friday that Bayern had had no contact from Liverpool over a transfer, but if Palmeri’s information is correct, they could have it very soon in the shape of a €30 million bid plus €5m in add-ons.
It would, however, seem a strange move for Liverpool to be signing a 29-year-old player for an already well-stocked section of the team, when it’s been widely felt that backup options on the left-back and wide forward positions should be their priority at the moment. On the other hand, it wouldn’t be the first time their moves in the market caught people by surprise and they’ve mostly worked out well.
