Liverpool and Tottenham attempted to sign Ander Herrera

Spanish newspaper AS claims that both Liverpool and Tottenham made an effort to sign Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera during the summer transfer window.

The English clubs have been following the player since his time at Real Zaragoza, and were impressed by the player’s showings in last year’s Europa League.

The Premiership giants even made official bids for the player’s services, ranging from €15m to €20m, but Herrera himself rejected the approaches.

The highly rated midfielder made it clear that he doesn’t want to leave San Mames, even if some of his high-profile teammates were eager to leave Athletic this summer.

The player, who is currently recovering from a groin injury, has four years left on his deal with los Leones and a €36 million release clause inserted in his deal.

Since joining the club from Real Zaragoza in the summer of 2011, the 23-year-old has made 34 La Liga appearances and scored 1 goal.
