PSV Eindhoven’s Steven Bergwijn has come up on the radar of Liverpool and Manchester United, according to Sport.
Twenty-one years of age, Bergwijn plays for the Eredivisie title holders and the U-21 Netherlands team as a winger.
The start of his career as a professional football player has been somewhat controversial. He came up through the ranks at the academy at Ajax, but he decided to leave the club after a conflict with one of the youth coaches. PSV immediately jumped at the chance and offered him a contract, and the story reached its culmination when he scored the final goal of PSV’s 3-0 victory over Ajax which secured the Eredivisie title for the Eindhoven club.
However, for all the talent the youngster boasts, United have players like Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford struggling for game-time, while Liverpool were forced to send the likes of Harry Wilson, Sheyi Ojo, Ryan Kent and Ben Woodburn out on loan as they have no place in the team for them next to Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Xherdan Shaqiri.
It would therefore be interesting to see what Bergwijn’s fate would be should he choose Old Trafford or Anfield as his next abode.
