Liverpool back in for Higuain

The Express understands that Liverpool are set to revive their interest in signing Gonzalo Higuain having failed with a bid for the Napoli striker in the summer.

The Reds tabled an offer of £22m plus Lucas Leiva for Higuain during the close season, though the bid was rejected by the Serie A side.

The Argentina international has been linked with a move away from Naples for some time, with Arsenal also interested in securing his services while rumours that Barcelona are also interested have been dismissed by his agent – brother Nicolas.

The 26 year old hit twenty-four goals in his debut season in Italy, while he has scored three in nine appearances in all competitions so far this season.

He is set to win his forty-fourth international cap when Gerardo Martino’s side take on Brazil in a friendly on Saturday, with Higuain priced at 11/2 to open the scoring.
