Portuguese daily newspaper Record understands that Liverpool have submitted an official proposal for Benfica midfielder Andre Gomes.
Given that holding midfielder Lucas Leiva is set to miss between six and eight weeks of action, the Reds are determined to sign him a replacement before the transfer window closes.
And according to Record, Liverpool have recently stepped up their interest in Benfica midfielder Andre Gomes.
Having had the player scouted on a number of occasions this season, Brendan Rodgers instructed the club officials to try and lure the 20-year-old to Anfield, with the club in turn submitting a €12 million offer.
Nevertheless, their initial proposal was rejected as the Eagles are reportedly holding out for €15 million.
Despite making just two substitute appearances in Primeira Liga for Benfica this season, Andre Gomes is held in high regard by top European clubs, and he is tipped to develop into a world-class player.
