Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has held an online meeting with Timo Werner of RB Leipzig, according to Raphael Honigstein.
Speaking to BT Sport, the respected journalist clearly indicated that the ball is now in Liverpool’s court, by pointing out that the striker went ‘on record’ with his wish to join the Reds. The meeting between the two Germans apparently took place quite recently, ‘over the last few weeks’, but the Premier League’s runaway leaders remain hesitant about the move as they await a reasonably accurate assessment of the financial damage caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Honigstein says a move like this would have normally been announced in April or May, but under the current circumstances, it could happen in August or September, depending on the time-frame eventually set for the transfer window to take place.
The 24-year-old, who scored a hat-trick in Leipzig’s 0-5 win away to Mainz 05 on Sunday, is reportedly prepared to stay put for another year and revisit the idea next summer rather than move elsewhere, if Liverpool choose to wait. But Honigstein believes there’s a strong chance of the move happening this summer.
