Despite speculation linking him with a move away from Anfield, The Daily Mail is reporting that Luis Suarez is set to stay at the club.
After a mixed first full season in Liverpool colours, the Uruguay international was reportedly the subject of interest from Juventus.
However, a source close to Suarez said: “It is thought Juventus were about to offer £16million or try to broker a cash plus player deal involving Eljero Elia or Milos Krasic.”
“But Rodgers has spoken with Luis to gain his confidence and explain the new project and his role in the team. Luis is calm about everything.”
It would certainly be a good start to Rodgers’ Liverpool career if he could secure the future of Suarez.
He may have had his fair share of negative headlines, but on the pitch he was excellent for Liverpool and if the team are to move forward, you would imagine he needs to be involved.
The 25-year-old scored 17 goals last season, including one of the goals of the entire campaign when he chipped Norwich City goalkeeper John Ruddy from the half-way line back in April.
It is now a case of Rodgers sitting down with Suarez, getting him involved in the latest project and then looking ahead to next season.
This would then keep away interested clubs – such as Juventus – who are monitoring the Suarez situation very closely indeed.
