Liverpool are closing in on a deal for Belgian international Simon Mignolet, according to the Metro.
The Reds have been linked with a move for a new goalkeeper amid continued speculation that current number one Pepe Reina may leave the club.
With fellow target Asmir Begovic declaring his willingness to stay at Stoke City, Mignolet has become Brendan Rodgers’ top target.
According to reports in the north east, Liverpool and Sunderland are close to agreeing on a fee for the 25 year old following 48 hours of extensive talks.
After returning from his holiday, Mignolet is expected on Merseyside where he will be offered a four year deal worth around £45,000 a week, which if accepted would leave the door open for Reina to return to Barcelona.
The La Liga champions have been strongly linked with the 30 year old, who made thirty league appearances for them between 2000 and 2002.
