It’s not done yet, but the talks between Liverpool and Roberto Firmino over a new contract for the Brazilian continue to progress well, according to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.
Firmino is keen on remaining at Anfield beyond his current deal, which expires at the end of the season, and he is fully prepared to stay put at least until the summer of 2025. His future at the club is very much dependent on that of manager Jurgen Klopp with whom he enjoys a fantastic relationship, and the German tactician has already signed a contract keeping him at the club until 2026.
Quite apart from his past contributions, first and foremost his selflessness and ability in the ‘false nine’ role which enabled stars like Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to shine for years, the 31-year-old has been one of Liverpool’s best performers this season, when things haven’t been going too well for Klopp’s team.
Since the start of the term, Firmino has scored more Premier League goals for Liverpool (7) than Gabriel Jesus for Arsenal (5) and Richarlison for Tottenham Hotspur (0) combined. Both of them were picked ahead of him for Brazil’s World Cup campaign which ended in the quarterfinals after losing to Croatia on penalties.
