Liverpool are closing in on AZ Alkmaar midfielder Rasmus Elm, Daily Mail has revealed.
The highly rated midfielder is expected to represent Sweden at the European Championship, but the Reds aim to try and complete the signing before the Euros.
The Sweden international has just over a year left on his contract and AZ Alkmaar are looking to cash in on him in the summer.
Daily Mail claims the Reds are leading the race for the 24-year-old, who is valued at £7 million.
Nonetheless, Liverpool could face a stiff competition for the player’s signature from Newcastle, who are also keen.
Rasmum Elm, whose two brothers are also professional footballers, arrived to Alkmaar from Swedish side Kalmar in 2009 and has since developed into a key player at AFAS Stadion.
The Swede has been one of team’s outstanding performers this season, having scored 10 goals and produced 8 assists in 32 Eredivisie games.
