Liverpool are close to completing a deal to sign Diogo Jota from Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to multiple sources.
Adding another attacking player, preferably one that can play on either flank or through the middle, has been one of the main goals for the Premier League champions this summer. They’ve already added left-back Kostas Tsimikas to their ranks and only today (Friday) completed the signing of midfielder Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich.
Ismaila Sarr of Watford was also carefully considered, but the Hornets set a price on the 22-year-old that made it clear they would prefer not to sell – over £40 million.
The fee Liverpool are expected to pay for Jota is around £35m, and his omission from the squad which suffered defeat at the hands of Stoke City in the Carabao Cup on Thursday is believed to have been a sign that a deal is close.
Meanwhile, 18-year-old Liverpool defender Ki-Jana Hoever is expected to go the other way for just over £10m. The two clubs are keen to complete both deals as soon as possible.
