Liverpool reportedly won’t be looking to make any massively expensive signings this summer, with only minor tweaks and possible replacements for squad members who leave the club in their plans. Instead, they are working on new contracts for several of their current stars.
However, the African Cup of Nations being moved back to winter time means the Champions League holders are set to be without the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita for a significant period in the middle of next season, and that, according to James Pearce of The Athletic, could prompt them to revisit their interest in RB Leipzig Timo Werner.
Apart from the Merseysiders, Werner has been linked with the likes of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, but so far none of those rumours have proven true. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of the Germany international, but it remains to be seen whether he opts to pay the reported price of €60 million for his services, as well as if the 23-year-old himself would choose to join a team already boasting a formidable front line.
