Liverpool have dismissed any speculation that Fernando Torres could move away from Anfield this summer in a big money move to Stamford Bridge, according to BBC Sport. ÂÂ
Torres has been linked with Chelsea in the past, however fresh rumours claim the Spaniard is one of new manager Felipe Scolari’s main transfer targets and Chelsea are ready to launch a massive big-money bid to land the striker.
Torres, 24 had an incredible first season at Anfield, netting 33 times in 46 games. Torres reportedly cost around £20 million from boyhood club Atletico Madrid and it is likely that the striker would cost nearly double that to be lured away from Liverpool. However Liverpool Chief executive has said that there is no way Liverpool will sell their prized asset as they look to build for next season.
Parry told BBC Sport: “Fernando Torres is just not for sale to anyone, It is as simple as that, really – he is not going anywhere.”
Despite Parry’s statement there are still many who believe that Chelsea can capture the signature of Torres with a big money move financed by Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.
However, Liverpool fans will be rejoicing as Torres told press that he was to stay at Anfield saying:â€ÂI have no intention of leaving; we have to focus our energies to give the little step we need to get to the top teams.
â€ÂIf we only improve the team a little, we are going to manage to do so.
â€ÂI want to say very clearly that I’m not on the market and it is my desire to continue at Liverpool.
â€ÂI am very happy at Liverpool and want to carry on.â€Â
Surely now there can be no doubt that Torres will still be a Liverpool player come the end of the transfer window and now the only interest in the striker will be whether the Spaniard can transfer his club form to international level at Euro 2008, where has already impressed along-side Liverpool and Chelsea transfer target David Villa.
