Liverpool will not be signing Ryan Fraser of Bournemouth or Denis Zakaria of Borussia Monchengladbach this January, according to James Pearce, the former Liverpool Echo journalist now working for The Athletic.
The Champions League holders and the current Premier League leaders have often been linked with wingers or versatile forwards, with many feeling they need more cover for the usual front three of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, that having Divock Origi and Rhian Brewster to fall back on simply isn’t enough. Recent reports spoke of their alleged interest in Fraser in that aspect, and of talks about a January move being in progress, but Pearce claims he’s been informed that’s not the case.
Zakaria was also mentioned in terms of boosting Klopp’s midfield options, but it appears that the German is happy with the names already at his disposal for the positions in the middle of the park. Adam Lallana is the only one whose contract expires at the end of the season, but the club have already prepared an offer of a new deal, and they have the option of a 12-month extension even without his consent.
