Liverpool end Thuram interest in favour of Lavia pursuit

According to multiple sources, Liverpool have pulled out of all talks that were supposed to lead to the proposed signing of Khephren Thuram from OGC Nice.

Journalist David Lynch claims the 22-year-old midfielder was considered as a target by Liverpool prior to the signing of Dominik Szoboszlai, who was always the preferred choice. However, other reports claimed the Merseysiders maintained their interest even after the arrival of the Hungary captain from RB Leipzig, and indicate that their decision to pull out of the talks is new.

Reading between the lines here, it seems there was an issue between the clubs, with Liverpool reluctant to trigger the release clause in Thuram’s contract and Nice equally reluctant to agree a fee below that amount.

Meanwhile, reports of Liverpool’s interest in Southampton’s Romeo Lavia persist, with Fabrizio Romano leading the way by claiming the Reds and the Saints are set to enter official talks in the coming days.

The 19-year-old is currently valued at £50 million and it remains to be seen if they agree to anything lower than that. Manchester City, who sold Lavia to Southampton last summer for around £11m, have a buyback clause worth £40m that kicks in next year.
