Liverpool are prepared to challenge the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City for the signature of Virgil van Dijk, as the race for the highly-rated Southampton defender hots up.
Jurgen Klopp is looking to bolster his backline this summer and with club’s hopes of securing the Champions League place next year, the hopes of getting in a position to challenge for the top talent on the market are also increasing.
Virgil van Dijk has been at the epicenter of intense transfer speculation for quite some time as the Dutch international is widely expected to leave Southampton at the end of the season.
Southampton’s former boss Ronald Koeman has also expressed his interest into reuniting with the Holland international, but Everton are facing a struggle to convince the 25-year-old to join with many a side in the running that can offer him Champions league football.
Real Madrid were also believed to be keeping close tabs of van Dijk, who is regarded as a possible replacement for Pepe, but Daily Mail suggests that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has made Dutchman his top priority.
And with Claude Puel’s interest in Mamadou Sakho, who is currently on loan at Crystal Palace, a swap deal of sort could be on the cards this summer.
