Raheem Sterling has told Brendan Rodgers that he wants to leave Liverpool, according to the Mirror.
The winger had been offered a new contract worth £90,000 per week, but his fears that the club are unable to challenge for major honours has made him want out.
The Reds have failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League and Sterling, who is keen to play in the competition, could be offered the chance to by one of Europe’s elite clubs.
The Merseyside club’s Premier League rivals Manchester City are keeping a close eye on the situation, and could be set to make a move for the 20 year old as they look to bring in more home grown players for next season.
Since breaking into Liverpool’s first team, Sterling has racked up one hundred and twenty-four appearances in all competitions, scoring twenty-three goals and was last season named the club’s Young Player of the Year.
