According to multiple sources, Liverpool have made initial contacts with the intention of exploring the possibility of signing Federico Chiesa from Juventus.
The 26-year-old winger has reportedly been told by his current club and head coach that he is not in their plans and instructed to find a new employer. Juventus are believed to be asking for €15 million for his services, which seems like a very low price considering his indisputable talent. On the other hand, Chiesa also has an extensive injury record, also an important factor when determining a fair market value of any player.
Chiesa is said to be keen to try his luck in the Premier League, and some reports go as far as to suggest he considers Liverpool’s interest most welcome.
This move by the six-time European champions is arguably surprising to an extent, given that their squad feels slightly short in other areas, such as the defensive midfield and the centre-back department. They tried and failed to sign midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, and they’re yet to replace centre-back Joel Matip, who left the club as a free agent at the end of last season.
