Liverpool eyeing Argentina World Cup star

Premier League outfit Liverpool are in advanced talks with Sampdoria for the purchase of Argentine goalkeeper Sergio Romero, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.

The Reds are keen to sign a new shot-stopper to compete with Simon Mignolet for the starting berth and they seem to be on the verge of recruiting the Argentina international.

Romero has returned to Sampdoria following a very disappointing spell at Monaco, but it looks as through he won’t be staying with the Bluecerchiati for much longer.

The 27-year-old made mere three league appearances for the Principality club last season, but he, nonetheless, kept his place as Argentina number one ahead of the 2014 World Cup.

Alejandro Sabella’s gamble produced excellent results seeing as how Romero was one of the star performers as los Albicelestes finished as runners up in Brazil.

A big club move finally appears on the cards for the experienced footballer, but nailing down a regular starting berth at Anfield is not going to be an easy task.
