Liverpool are set to launch an assault on Spartak Moscow midfielder Romulo, reports Metro.

The Reds have suffered a major blow as it was revealed Lucas Leiva would miss two months of action through a knee ligament injury.

As a result, they are hoping to sign a new holding midfielder and have turned to his compatriot Romulo, who is plying his trade at Spartak Moscow.

Brendan Rodgers had been hot on the trail of the 23-year-old footballer for quite a while, and he has decided to make his interest concrete following the recent developments.

Liverpool have asked Spartak Moscow to notify them of the asking price for the Brazilian as they hope to add him to their ranks by the end of the month.

Romulo had established quite a reputation in Brazil before signing for the Russian giants, having also impressed at the 2012 Olympics, but a succession of knee injuries was the reason for him making just 4 league appearances for Spartak so far.

Lyon join chase for Menez

Lyon are the latest club to have shown interest in Paris Saint-Germain winger Jeremy Menez, according to Le Parisien.

The 26-year-old is widely tipped to leave Parc des Princes as his current deal is due to expire at the end of the season, with Italian Serie A being mentioned as the most likely destination.

Menez has a long list of suitors among Italy’s top clubs, with Juventus, Inter Milan and Fiorentina reportedly keen.

Nevertheless, Le Parisien reports that the highly rated footballer could be staying in France after all, seeing as how Lyon are weighing up a move for his services.

Les Gones are hoping to sign the player on loan until the end of the season, but it remains to be seen if PSG would be interested in such an arrangement.

Revived Lyon play host to Evian on Sunday at Stade Gerland, with Remi Garde’s men 4/9 to claim maximum points.

Islam Slimani on West Ham radar

France Football is reporting that West Ham are hoping to sign Algerian striker Islam Slimani from Sporting Lisbon.

It is no secret the Hammers are determined to sign a new striker before the end of the transfer window despite the fact that Andy Carroll has recovered from injury.

According to France Football, West Ham have submitted an official proposal for Sporting Lisbon forward Islam Slimani.

The Hammers want to sign the player on loan until the end of the season with an option to turn his loan move into permanent deal.

Islam Slimani only joined the Lions in the summer, but he has been showing a great deal of potential at Estadio Jose Alvalade.

Even is he was not able to nail down a regular starting berth due to Fredy Montero enjoying a remarkable season, the 25-year-old has proved his credentials by notching 3 goals in just over 200 minutes of football.
