Liverpool eyeing Vertonghen move

Liverpool will make a move for Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen, if they beat them to a top four spot this season, according to the Mirror.

The 26 year old has been one of the North London club’s star performers since arriving at White Hart Lane from Ajax in the summer of 2012, but recently admitted that he would consider a move if Spurs fail to qualify for the Champions Leauge.

Their narrow victory over relegation threatened Cardiff City at the weekend left them just four points behind fourth place Manchester City, though the Capital One Cup winners have played two games fewer than Tim Sherwood’s side.

Liverpool meanwhile rose to second place after thumping Southampton 3-0 at St Mary’s on Saturday afternoon, leaving them in a much stronger that Tim Sherwood’s men to secure a top four place, with the pair set to meet at Anfield at the end of this month.
