Liverpool will have to wait until later in the week to discover the full extent of Fernando Torres’s knee injury after the Spain striker was examined by a specialist.

Torres missed Sunday’s 0-0 draw against Fulham to travel to Spain for an assessment of the problem, which has bothered him for several weeks.

The former Atletico Madrid star received treatment in his home country but tests were inconclusive and he will be reassessed later in the week.

“Fernando Torres was examined by a knee specialist this afternoon in Spain,” a Liverpool statement read on Monday.

“He received treatment and will continue to do so over the next few days, with the injury being reassessed later this week.”
