Premier League outfit Liverpool are said to be close to agreeing a deal for Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic.
The 23-year-old Croatia midfielder has struggled to break into the first team at Santiago Bernabeu with Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane using him sporadically over the past year and a half.
Having started just 19 La Liga matches last season, the former Inter Milan man has thus far made only three league appearances and a move away from Madrid is being touted.
Spanish media outlet Diario Gol claims that Mateo Kovacic is a transfer target for Premier League club Liverpool, adding that the Croatia international has already reached a verbal agreement with the Reds.
They claim Jurgen Klopp is a huge admirer of Kovacic who is seen as a direct replacement for Philippe Coutinho.
Kovacic is currently away at FIFA Club World Cup with Los Blancos.
The midfielder played 67 minutes in Real Madrid’s 2-1 semi-final triumph over Al Jazira and is expected to be given a run in the final match against Gremio as well.
