Liverpool handed boost in Benzema chase

Liverpool have stepped up their interest in Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, reports Daily Star.

The Reds seem ready to sign another high-profile striker in January in an attempt to get their season back on track and it would appear as though the Frenchman has become their primary target.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been in talks with los Blancos officials and he has been told Benzema could be signed for £38.8 million.

Benzema is reportedly far from happy at Santiago Bernabeu and he is prepared to embark on a new challenge.

The Reds have signed Mario Balotelli from AC Milan in an attempt to compensate for the departure of Luis Suarez, but the Italian has only managed one goal in seven competitive fixtures, while failing to score in four Premiership starts.

Meanwhile, Karim Benzema has also struggled at the start of the new season, netting three times in ten competitive outings.
