(GSM) – Tom Hicks believes his reign as Liverpool co-owner has been a success as the club has tripled in value. Hicks, along with co-owner George Gillette, have put up the club for sale and continue to search for a buyer.
With constant bust-ups with manager Rafa Benitez and Liverpool now drowning with a debt of £237m, Hicks and Gillette have finally agreed to sell the club. However, Hicks maintains that the club will not be sold for a cut-price value.
Hicks told the Sunday Mirror, “Liverpool football club has been a great investment. It has probably tripled in value.
“We have doubled player spending, both gross and net, and the new stadium is now fully designed and permitted. With fresh capital from a new owner, the stadium will be operational by August 2014.
“Liverpool will be as profitable as any other club in the Premier League and can compete financially and on the pitch with any other club.
“This is a great step forward for Liverpool FC, but we will now take our time and find the best possible owner.
“The fans blame the owners, but we had terrible injuries with our star players out and we just weren’t a very good team without them.”
