Premier League top-four contenders Liverpool seem to have identified the replacement for Philippe Coutinho who moved to Barcelona during the summer transfer window.
The Reds see Real Madrid star Marco Asensio as the man to fill in Coutinho’s boots at Anfield and are said to have already tabled an offer to land the Spaniard.
Liverpool are prepared to fork out €150 million for out-of-sorts Asensio who is not playing regularly for Real Madrid this season.
Spanish media outlet Don Balon reports Liverpool will face competition for Asensio’s signature in Premier League rivals Chelsea who are said to be the player’s preferred choice if he is to leave Santiago Bernabeu.
Chelsea are keen on the 22-year-old and could try to include him in any potential sale of Eden Hazard or Thibaut Courtois to the Madrid-based club.
Marco Asensio is under contract with Real Madrid until 2023.
