Liverpool in for Clichy

Liverpool are closing in on a deal for former Manchester City full-back Gael Clichy, according to the Mail Online.

The France international is available on a free transfer after his contract ran out at the Etihad Stadium and Jurgen Klopp is ready to pounce as he looks to strengthen his squad ahead of a season back in the Champions League.

James Milner had been converted into a left-back last season and made the position his own but the Reds manager is keen to add competition for places.

During his time with the Citizens Clichy racked up one hundred and ninety-two appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring two goals and with them won two Premier League titles and two League Cups.

He is one of only a handful of players to win England’s top division having helped former club Arsenal to the title back in 2004 while he has twenty caps for his country.
