Liverpool in for Hummels

Liverpool are considering a move for Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, according to the Mirror.

The potential switch would see the centre-back, who has previously been linked with a move to Manchester United, be reunited with former manager Jurgen Klopp, who took charge at Anfield two months ago.

Hummels moved to Dortmund from Bayern Munich in January 2008 and has since racked up two hundred and seventy-one appearances in all competitions, scoring twenty-three times.

Internationally, he has been capped forty-four times for Germany, scoring four times with two of those goals coming at last summer’s World Cup finals, where Joachim Low’s side triumphed.

Klopp will look to bolster his squad when the transfer window reopens next month, with a defender likely to be high on his list of priorities.

The Reds suffered a surprise defeat to Newcastle United at the weekend – a result which has left them six points of the top four.
