According to a recent report from ESPN, Liverpool are interested in signing New York Red Bulls defender Aaron Long.
They’ll have to work fast if they want to get the American in before the transfer deadline on Monday, as the 28-year-old prepares for what could be his first move outside of the United States.
Long didn’t break into the NYRB side until 2017 and with the Major League Soccer season not being set to resume until at least April, a temporary move away could be on the cards.
That’d open up the door for a loan deal and when you consider how desperate Liverpool are to bring in some defensive reinforcements, it makes all the sense in the world for them to get someone in on loan.
Jurgen Klopp has been trepidatious when it comes to entering into the January transfer window up to this point, but the time has come for him to be a bit braver.
